When I first saw this new lens from Tamron, its remind me about my first Canon EF 24-70mm F2.8L USM (MK I) that has been sold off some 2 years ago.
The most scary part of the Canon 24-70mm MK I was the focusing accuracy issue. I simply have had too many painful experiences when I pair it with my (Ex-) Canon EOS 5D MK II and even with the current Canon EOS 1D MK IV body.
I am sure the latest Canon EF 24-70mm F2.8L II USM address most of the MK I issues but I have yet to test-drive one so far. Even the MK II addresses those focusing accuracy issues, I am very sure that I will have to think very-very hard to invest over RM7,000 for the MK II. It's almost a price for a new Canon EF 70-200mm F2.8L IS II USM (Retail around RM7,600 as at Sep 2012)
The Tamron's SP24-70mm (a.k.a A007) rock in this respect as the retail price well kept within the range of RM3,800 -RM4,000 (or cheaper…who's know) thus making it more affordable to many users, especially the amateur eyeing for the upcoming Canon EOS 6D full frame camera.

第一代佳能EF24-70mm F2.8L镜头最可怕的部分是它的对焦精度问题。每当我配上我之前的EOS 5D MK II，甚至与目前在用的EOS 1D MK IV时, 它使我有过太多的移焦痛苦经历(移焦的程度甚至连在努力摆Pose的麻豆都喊救命!）
我个人深信佳能最新的EF24-70mm F2.8L镜皇二代解决了许多第一代对于对焦精度, 色彩及对比上的镜头问题, 可惜至今我还没有机会试试镜皇二代的表现。
即使是镜皇二代能完全解决这些对焦精度的问题，但以超过马币七千大元的天皇价开卖却让许多玩家的梦想破灭。我想我也会非常非常努力去评估是否值得去投资这马币七千大元…这几乎是一枝全新的佳能EF70-200mm F2.8L IS II USM红圈白镜的价格了（参考: "爱死小白"于2012年9月的行货零售价格在马币七千八百大元左右 !!）
腾龙的SP24-70mm VC (代码-A007)在价格这一块的确无可比拟, 以更实惠的零售价定于马币四千大元之下开卖而直接使许多业余玩家们受惠。我想特别是那些将目标投放在即将推出市面的全新佳能EOS 6D入门全画幅相机的玩家们.
Tamron is famous in making smaller, lighter and price friendly lenses……that has been my impression so far till recently when I hold the new A007. The size is about the same as the Canon EF 24-70 MK I. It's slightly heavier then the Canon MK II version, not a lot but marginally! By numbers, it's about 20 gram more. When pairing with the 1D MK IV body, the weight is just right for me. I kinda like the weight and feel of this lens. It's definitely feel more solid then the others Tamron lenses including the competitor - Sigma 24-70mm.
The weather & dust seals (yet to be tested) is an added advantage for some (especially the landscape photographers) but personally, not a must have feature for me as I do portrait most of the time and hardly play under the rain!!
Having a 82mm filter means allowing more lights into the camera's sensor and also means a more expensive filter cost.
腾龙一直给我至今的印象是一家著名于制造生产体积精小，重量更轻及友好价格镜头群的第三方厂家。直至最近当我第一次拿起新的腾龙A007时完全改观了。直觉上腾龙A007的大小与重量与第一代佳能EF24-70mm F2.8L镜头相同。通过数字，腾龙A007比佳能EF24-70mm F2.8L镜皇二代稍重约20克, 用家应该不容易察觉。在配上EOS 1D MK IV机身时，重量是挺适合我的。坦白说我个人还挺喜欢这个镜头的重量和手感。把腾龙A007镜头握在手上的直觉是它的造工精细, 整体上感觉比其他腾龙, 包括竞争对手的适马 (Sigma)的镜头来的结实及专业。
腾龙A007的密封防尘防滴（尚未有机会测试）处理是它迈向专业的一个额外加特，这对于一些常在户外拍摄的玩家（特别是风光/微距摄影师）是非常实用的功能。但个人而言不是一项必须具备的功能，因为我个人大部分时间都是在室内或屋檐下拍人像加上通常都不习惯在雨中 与麻豆浪漫 作业…(雨中难以发挥吧!)
这支腾龙A007镜头滤镜口径为82mm。镜头原配一支大型花瓣形遮光罩，光罩的厚度比一般的遮光罩要厚，感觉也非常结实。遮光罩的内层采用了螺纹设计，这样可以减轻光反射对镜头成像的影响。82mm口径也让更多的光进入相机的传感器，但这也意味着更昂贵的镜头滤镜!
Vibration Compensation (防抖补偿)
The most stunning feature is the Vibration Compensation (VC)….making the A007 being the first of its kind in the world (Hello..Canon!) Tamron claimed about 4-stops by specification on paper…well, we all know that it's very much dependence on the individual's "holding power".
I should have tested it below the 1/60 of a second shutter speed but unfortunately I am so impress with the lens and the Tamron's model standing in front of me…I forgot to set it below 1/60s……GOD!!!!!…..what a great sales tactics employed by Tamron during the KLPF show! Kudos!
这支腾龙A007镜头最迷人的是世界上唯一搭载VC防抖补偿的全画幅单反专用大光圈标准变焦镜头 (截止2012年10月1日)!! 根据腾龙官方数据，VC防抖补偿功能具有4个整档的防抖能力…嗯，大家都知道，这防抖补偿的是成功率非常依赖于个人的“手持稳定程度”!
在这次短暂的试用中, 我应该在低于1/60秒的快门速度下进行了测试，但不幸的是…我被这支镜头的造工和站在我的面前的腾龙美媚麻豆给吸引过去了…天啊! 我敢敢忘了把快门速度下调!!!! 腾龙在KLPF的销售策略实在……强！
Fortunately I have a friend by the name - Dan Chan!
I set my camera at 1/60s, F2.8 and ISO 640 aiming at the signage about 8-10 meters away and shooting it at 10fps……while Dan keep shaking my right hand while I'm pressing my shutter…..hey, the image still sharp for the entire 14 frames (a near 100% crop)! WOW……I'm impressed..seriously..that's impressive, I can't have such high of a success rate with my Canon 70-200mm f2.8L IS II USM ….not with some one consistently shaking my hand while shooting.

我将我的相机快门速度放在1/60秒，焦距31mm(全幅24mm- 安全快门X2), 光圈F2.8，ISO 640….瞄准距离约8-10米的指示牌以1秒10幅(10fps)的速度连拍......而朋友- 丹陈不断震动着我按着快门的右手….哎，整个为14帧的成象作品的焦点仍然是锐利的（接近100％的成功率)! 哇……这次我真正留下了非常深刻及震惊的印象!! 连我一直非常信任的佳能EF70-200mm F2.8L IS II USM红圈白镜也没有如此高的成功率…….(如果在没有人连续震动着我的右手的话, 爱死小白的防抖命中率可能也不过如此啊!!)
In term of sharpness, most reviews on the web claimed noticeable softness at the edge but it's definitely usable for me in many occasions, even for the paid assignment.
When handheld at 1/60s and with a wide open f2.8, the sharpness is deemed sufficient for me. Personally, I rate the optic quality matching some of the entry level zoom "L" lens in real life situation. Honestly, I don't read MTF Chat when consider a lens purchase but based on my experience with the real lift performance, the overall optic performance is exceeding my expectation, not fantastic but decent enough for most users!
对于大多数在网络上评论着的腾龙A007镜头边缘清晰锐利度问题，声称边缘锐利度稍柔，但对我来说, 在很多现实场合(甚至是收费作业)中是绝对是可用的!
快门速度放在1/60秒和一个全开放F2.8光圈下，以手持拍摄的清晰度对我来说是足够的。就个人而言，在现实生活中的情况下拍摄可以批美某些入门标准变焦“L”镜的光学品质。说实话，我不以MTF的数据去考虑购买镜头，而是根据我个人对镜头的用后感及其功能作出决定。腾龙A007镜头整体光学性能超出了我的预期，不说的是非常棒，但是对于大多数玩家来说是足够有佘的！
The final question, will I buy one?
My sincere answer is - YES!
Given a choice between the Canon EF24-70mm f2.8L II USM and Tamron's A007, I will go for the A007 for few reasons: -
1) Value for money - Almost half the investment
2) Vibration Compensation - You never know when you need it and when you need it, is there baby! (especially for video & indoor assignment)
3) Solid build with dust & weather seal - Feel more comfortable when shooting outdoor (such as beach, etc)
4) Decent focusing speed - Close to the Canon 24-70 MK I ** (personal opinion)
5) Decent optic quality with good sharpness - Center sharpness matching some of the entry level zoom "L" lens** (personal opinion)
You should not consider if: -
1) you are using APS-C - better option to go for the Tamron 11-16mm / Canon EF 16-35mm wide angle.
2) you must have the "L" Lens
3) you need a better chromatic aberration (CA) performance
4) you are very particular and concern on sharpness at the edge (landscape photographer)
5) you are using the Canon EOS 1-Dx (Coz you definitely can afford the all new Canon 24-70mm MK II)
6) you carry tripod most of the time - VC is not important to you as you have to off it anyway when mounted on tripod!
最后一个问题，我会买吗？

在佳能EF24-70mm F2.8L镜皇二代和腾龙A007之间选择，我会去买腾龙A007的几个主要原因如下： -
1）超高性价比 - 几乎是镜皇二代一半的价格 (整体表现不到有一半的差距)
2）4档防抖补偿(VC) - 你永远不知道你何时需要防抖，但当你需要时才不会后悔 (尤其是拍视频或室内作业)
3）造工精细结实加简易防滴溅结构设计 - 在户外拍摄时更感安心（如海滩外拍作业等）
4）优越的对焦速度 - 接近第一代佳能EF24-70mm F2.8L镜头**（个人意见）
5）良好的成像锐利度 - 中央锐度可匹配某些入门标准变焦“L”镜的光学品质**（个人意见）
你不应该考虑买腾龙A007的几个主要原因如下： -
1）您使用的是APS-C感光元件相机 - 腾龙的11-16MM f2.8 DC 或佳能的EF 16-35mm f2.8L的大光圈广角变焦镜头会是更好的选择。
2）你必须拥有红圈 “L”级镜头
3）你恃别在义镜头色差（chromatic aberration）的表现性能
4）你是非常特别的在义成像边缘的锐利度（如专业风光或商品摄影等）
5）您正在使用着机皇佳能EOS 1-DX（因为你肯定能负担得起佳能EF24-70mm F2.8L镜皇二代的价格）
6）你常抬着三脚架拍摄 - 4档防抖补偿对你并不重要..反正你也必须关闭防抖功能!
